we're just getting started
Uniting the experts, organizations, and communities shaping how our state cares for women in midlife.
More than a million women in North Carolina are in or approaching menopause, and yet there's no single place the state turns to when it needs to understand what they're facing or what should be done about it. Lawmakers are weighing menopause legislation, health systems are deciding how to train their providers, and employers are figuring out how to support their workforce, all without a shared, trusted source to guide them.
The North Carolina Menopause Coalition is being built to be that source.
We're bringing together the state's clinicians, researchers, advocates, employers, and community leaders so that when North Carolina has questions about menopause, there's one credible, coordinated, evidence-informed voice ready to answer them. Together, we'll set the standard for menopause care in our state, shape the policies that affect women's health and work, and make sure decisions about menopause are informed by the people who know it best.
There's no single place the state turns to.
We're building it.
why this matters
When the people working on menopause speak separately, they're easy to overlook. When they speak together, they become impossible to ignore. NCMC exists so North Carolina's menopause expertise has a seat at the table, whether that's in the General Assembly, in hospital boardrooms, in medical school classrooms, or in conversations about workplace policy.

the roadmap
We're just getting started, and here's what's on our roadmap:
A statewide coalition of organizations and individuals committed to better menopause care
An advisory board made up of clinical, research, community, and lived-experience voices
Advocacy for menopause-related policy, including a live tracker of menopause legislation in North Carolina and Congress
Partnerships with health systems, universities, employers, and community organizations
Education and training for healthcare professionals, employers, and the public
Statewide convenings and events that bring the coalition together
Support for menopause research happening in North Carolina
A trusted statewide resource for policymakers, health systems, employers, and media seeking expert guidance on menopause
Every coalition starts somewhere. Right now, it's us:
Anna Young
founder
The moment Anna Young realized her mental health crisis was the result of the hormonal cliff dive of perimenopause, she made an appointment with a gynecologist, waited three months, and walked in hopeful, only to be told the doctor "only gives HRT to postmenopausal women." Believing we all deserve access to proper care, information, research, and policy, Anna drew on 20 years as an entrepreneur, creative leader, product developer, and community builder to create Shoup, a care network and community hub connecting people in the menopause transition with each other and with menopause-informed professionals.
Building Shoup showed her just how big the gap really is. Women can't get care that providers were never trained to give, and providers can't change a system that isn't listening to them. Anna founded the North Carolina Menopause Coalition to close that gap at the state level, bringing together the people who know menopause best so North Carolina finally has one credible voice shaping its care, research, and policy.
